Beckman's Dog Training hold Basic and Puppy classes at Camp Run-a-Mutt. Dogs will learn sit, stay, walk on a loose lease, hand target, go to bed and many more behaviors. You will learn clicker training, proactive aggression reduction, and proper exercise. You will also learn some fun behaviors and how to raise a happy dog. We do not accept aggressive dogs, this issue is best dealt with with in-home training.
About the trainer
Joel comes from training killer whales at Sea World and we are very excited to have him. He teaches a weekly obedience class at the camp on Sundays. His clicker training and positive reinforcement techniques have proven very effective and is well liked and respected by his clients. We also offer grooming by a highly skilled, talented groomer and we are thrilled to have her with us. Her love of dogs and attention to detail has made everyone who has put their trust in her become a repeat customer.
Our campers love the idea that they can be dropped off, play, play, play until they're dog-tired, get groomed and beautiful, play some more, then go home. They never sit in a cage waiting for their appointment. They get a stress free, fun experience, and you get a tired, clean and groomed pup at the end of the day. Talk about convenient!!
Dogs who are not "campers" can also be groomed but are kept separate from the rest of the dogs until they are picked up. All "non-campers" should be current on all vaccinations. Grooming is by appointment only.
At CAMP RUN-A-MUTT we offer a different type of boarding. Like our daycare, our boarding is primarily cage free. Our goal is to make your dog's stay as comfortable and stress free as possible. Whether you're going on vacation or taking care of business, your dog will be made to feel as safe and comfortable as they would at home. After a day of play, dogs are individually fed and prepared for a comfy nights sleep. Before bed time, dogs are taken outside to "do their business" before it's time to turn in for the night. Each dog gets their own bed and roomy suites are available for dogs that need their own space. As with daycare, someone stays with the dogs even while they sleep.
Requirements
While we think cage free is the best way to go, it's not for all dogs. Dogs who have not attended Camp Run-A-Mutt for daycare are required at least a full day stay for evaluation to determine if they will get along in a cage free environment prior to an overnight stay. Feeding is included in the cost for boarding but we require you to supply your dog's food along with feeding instructions. Drop off time is by 12:00 noon and pick up is by close of business the last day of their stay. Since we are closed for daycare on Sunday, pick up is by 5:00 pm on Sundays.
We offer the most unique daycare anywhere. Cage free, outside, in a park like setting. Why should your dog be inside when San Diego has the most perfect weather in the world? Our campers enjoy a vigorous morning of play with lots of toys, ball fetch, chasing, being chased, socializing, belly rubs and frolicking in the splash pond. Later in the day, the toys are put away and it's time to settle for a nap, rest, or lunch (if requested by the owner). Before you know it, it's time to go home, tired, hungry and ready to settle in with their favorite human or humans.
Benefits
Day care gives your dog the social outlet they need so much. Not to mention exercise that will help them live a long, healthy and happy life. Imagine less veterinarian bills, and less destruction to your house and yard from a bored or mischevious dog. Tired dogs are happy dogs, and happy dogs make happy owners. It's a win/win situation.
Our Staff and Campers
Our staff know the concept of being the "Alpha Dog" in the pack. They have years of experience in dog handling and understand how important it is for a dog to listen and respond for the safety and fun for all. Camper wannabes are required to know basic obedience, show no aggression toward dogs or humans, refrain from jumping onto humans, play well with smaller dogs and not bark excessively. These are the characteristics we look for when testing and emphasized by our staff after the dog becomes an official "camper".
