Amy came to San Diego from Chicago for a temporary travel assignment as a Neonatal Intensive Care nurse in May, 2005 with her sidekick and best friend (her Great Dane) Abbey. Unexpectedly, Amy fell in love with San Diego, and what was supposed to be a thirteen week assignment turned into an official relocation.
Working twelve hour shifts at a hospital made it difficult to find daycare for Abbey to attend. Abbey suffered from significant separation anxiety and needed to stay busy and entertained during those long days. It was this experience that made Amy want to start a daycare that would cater to dog lovers who work long hours.
A good friend knew of Amy's dream to start a daycare and introduced her to the founders of Camp Run-A-Mutt. An instant connection was made and, with her NICU colleague and business partner Andi, they followed their dream to open a crate-free dog daycare and are thrilled to be part of the Camp Run-A-Mutt family.
Like her business partner Amy, Andi originally came to San Diego for a temporary travel assignment as a Neonatal Intensive Care nurse in 2005. It seemed like a great way to avoid the cold Denver winters. One assignment turned into two and then quickly became a year. Andi officially relocated to San Diego in 2006 and the temporary travel assignment became a permanent career move. Andi's black lab Macy made the move too and was quite happy to get away from the snow and play in the waves at the beach.
Andi's personal passion has always been animals. Growing up, she always had a dog in the house that was considered part of the family. Today is no exception. Macy was joined by Kosmo, another lab, and most recently, Sherlock. Andi hates leaving them for the long hours she is at work and has always wanted a job where her furry kids could go too. Owning a dog day care was the ultimate dream career.
One morning at work, Amy and Andi were watching the dogs play on the Mutt Cams at Camp Run-A-Mutt Mission Hills. Both spoke of the dream of being able to have their own dog day care at some point. Amy called Andi a week later to discuss a partnership and the process started. We were going to own our own Camp Run-A-Mutt. Andi's dream was coming true.
